In addition to the leaflet there is additional information
available for travellers to the euro area.
In the UK, euro cash (notes only) has been available since 1
January 2002.
The former national currencies are no longer legal tender. If you have some of these
monies see the exchange your old currency section of this site.
Further information on each of the euro area countries that
travellers may find helpful are on the country information sheets.
General information for travellers by country is available from
the Foreign and Commonwealth Office site: www.fco.gov.uk
A number of commercial and representative organisations have
also provided information for customers:
Information for travellers is also available on the DTI Consumer
Gateway at http://www.consumer.gov.uk/consumer_web/euro_faq.htm
| Euro area dependent territories |
A number of the euro area countries have dependent territories
that have had to decide whether or not to adopt the euro or
keep their existing currency.
A list of the overseas territories that are adopting the euro
(and some that are not) is available from the ABTA site at:
http://www.abtamembers.org/euroinfo/countryindex.htm.
